AgriResearch Conference - Innovating for the future of farming and rural communities

Event Details:

  • Date:
  • Location: Le Charlemagne, Brussels, Belgium
  • Register

The EU AgriResearch Conference is dedicated to scientists, farmers, rural communities, industry, advisors, policy-makers, citizens and NGO representatives who wish to learn about EU agriculture and rural R&I activities and achievements and to have their say on how to shape the future of agriculture R&I after 2020. The conference will also be a great occasion to network with around 500 peers.

The conference objectives are:

- to take stock of the implementation of the strategic approach to EU agricultural R&I and present its first achievements on knowledge produced, linkages established between EU policies or new avenues opened in terms of implementation approaches;

- to kick-start a participatory process to discuss how to further structure agricultural and rural R&I activities under future EU policies, in particular the future EU framework programme for research and innovation and the future CAP by identifying key issues deserving particular attention under the different strategy priorities and exploring how to maximise impact and synergies between the various EU policies and instruments.

VISCA project will be presented during this event by SEMIDE! For more information, check the official website.

24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) - COP24

Event Details:

  • Date:
  • Location: Katowice, Poland
  • Register

The UNFCCC is a “Rio Convention”, one of three adopted at the “Rio Earth Summit” in 1992. The UNFCCC entered into force on 21 March 1994. Today, it has near-universal membership. The countries that have ratified the Convention are called Parties to the Convention. Preventing “dangerous” human interference with the climate system is the ultimate aim of the UNFCCC.

The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the supreme body of the UNFCCC Convention. It consists of the representatives of the Parties to the Convention. It holds its sessions every year. The COP takes decisions which are necessary to ensure the effective implementation of the provisions of the Convention and regularly reviews the implementation of these provisions.

In accordance with a decision of the 22nd Session of the Conference of the Parties to the Climate Convention (COP22) in Marrakesh in November 2016, the successive climate summit will be held in Poland. Poland was selected to host this event within the framework of the Eastern European Group (EEG).

Poland will hold the Presidency of the Climate Convention for the third time and Prof. Jan Szyszko, its Minister of the Environment, will take the position of the COP President for the second time. For more information, check the official website.

European Meteorological Society Annual Meeting 2018

Event Details:

  • Date:
  • Location: Budapest, Hungary
  • Register

The challenges for meteorology are growing. Citizens, decision-makers, indeed all of society require information on the consequences of our changing climate, and especially on weather and climate hazards that seem to occur more frequently and to have a significant impact on humans, nature, and infrastructure. The essential role of meteorology since the start of operations remains unchanged – the provision to society of reliable forecasts and trustworthy warnings. However, in the 21st century impact predictions and long-term projections of climate change are also needed to support national strategic decisions aimed at saving lives and reducing the costs of natural hazards. All of these challenges place increasing responsibility on scientists and forecasters, as well as on meteorological companies, institutions, and organisations: the whole “weather and climate enterprise”.

VISCA project will be presented during this event by BSC! For more information, check the official website.

During the first day, an introduction of the project, consortium and the PAB members will start-off the workshop. Then, a brainstorming session and a series of questions on how climate change is affecting the different sectors of agriculture including vineyards will be organised. This brainstorming session aims to gather more insights of the needs of the end-users and related stakeholders. The first workshop day will be concluded with a field visit in the Bomfim vistor center. On the second day of the workshop, participants will have a training session on the primary mock-ups of the VISCA tool and a virtual guide through its main functionalities. Feedback from the participants will be collected to make improvements in the tool.

VISCA will provide a Climate Service (CS) and Decision Support System (DSS) that integrate climate, agricultural and end-users specifications in order to design medium- and long-term adaptation strategies to climate change. The project is validated by real demonstrations with end-users on three demo sites in Spain, Italy and Portugal. VISCA started officially in May 2017 for a period of 3 years. It is led by Meteosim and it is composed of 11 members from different fields including end-users (Codorniu, Mastroberardino and Symington).
